HONORABILE

HONORABILE

Standards light cadmium yellow. Falls mahogany red on bronzed yellow ground, flecked deeper.  This vigorous French cultivar from the 1840s is found throughout the United States, growing along roadsides or near abandoned homesteads.  It's the progenitor of several 'sports' or chance mutations, among them 'Joseph's Coat Katkamier', 'Kaleidoscope', 'Sherwin-Wright' and 'Sans Souci'.  It's very possible that the original 'Honorabile' no longer exists and that what actually gets traded around as such is actually 'Sans Souci'.  Iris historians disagree, and for our part, we just want to share with you a beautiful plant.  Our 'Honorabile' is identical to other clones of namesake material in the trade.
